Welcome to our Romantic Northwest Michigan Bed and Breakfast

Ed Fisher from The Morning Sun writes…

The House on the Hill is a fabulous bed and breakfast… We had a wonderful time and came home refreshed and happy. Read his entire article here.

According to Sandra Soule who writes in INNROADS…

“You might choose to stay at The House on the Hill because of its convenient location in Northern Michigan’s Chain of Lakes resort area, with a hour’s drive of either Traverse City or Mackinac Island, close to a myriad of opportunities for everything from skiing to golf, water sports to hiking, antiquing, to casino gambling. There’s only one problem with that plan–it requires you to leave the inn–not an easy thing to do. From the newly redecorated and comfortable guest rooms, each with a queen- or king-size bed, to the inviting sunroom with a cozy fireplace, to the gracious, wicker-filled wraparound porch overlooking St. Clair Lake, temptations to linger abound. The inn’s expansive grounds offer extensive lake frontage as well as groomed walking trails for hiking, snow-shoeing, and cross-country skiing: within walking distance is one of Michigan’s finest restaurants, Rowe Inn. See what we mean?”

Traverse Magazine says…

“Sitting squarely between two of Michigan’s most outstanding restaurants, this bed and breakfast is a vortex for food lovers. Visitors to the converted Ellsworth farmhouse also find the amiable hospitality…and drop-jaw breakfasts”

A Wonderful Experience!

We love this place and return every year. Staying at The House on the Hill is like walking into a Hallmark Movie. Come here with someone you care about. Sit on the porch. Walk the trails. Go kayaking. Enjoy the babbling brook. Delight in one of the best breakfasts you’ve ever eaten. Hostess Marcie is SO good at making you feel special and appreciated. Our guess is that if you visit, you will come back too!

Best B&B hands down.

“I’ve been going to The House on the Hill for years. Although there are many other choices in the area, this one has it all, and then some. Between the home itself, the front porch overlooks a beautiful lake across the road, has acres & acres of trails to go hiking on ( it’s worth getting up early in the morning to go out on them) the food is outstanding & the proprietor goes out of her way to make your stay there truly memorable. I’m already planning my next visit.”

“We came here for part of our honeymoon. Mostly enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful scenery. Truly loved every moment of our experience. The room was very comfortable and neatly furnished. The breakfasts were always very delicious and expertly crafted. Also enjoyed the complementary activities we could participate in as well. We canoed down the Chain of Lakes for part of a day enjoying all of the scenery. It was an unforgettable experience. Can’t wait to go back!”

“My husband and I stayed at this lovely B&B for a much needed R&R. We couldn’t have picked a better place. The room was lovely and very comfortable. The breakfasts were AMAZING! The scenic views are spectacular surrounding this delightful house. The lake and the hiking trails were breathtaking. We loved visiting with our host (Marci) and appreciated her perfection with every detail. We are already looking at the calendar to see when we can return! Thank you Marci:)”
