Cross Country and Snowshoe Trails
If you are staying at The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast in Ellsworth, you just need to walk out the back door. We have 53 acres of private land for you to snowshoe on. We will even provide the snowshoes! If you bring your cross country skis, you can venture out on our land as well.
Charlevoix Cross Country and Snowshoe Trails
In the Mt. McSauba area there are three loops for levels from novice to advanced. There are 80 acres of natural wooded land with a variety of flat and sloped terrain and beautiful views of Lake Michigan. A lighted 2k groomed trail provides for winter fun even in the dark. 5 miles of trail total.
Fishermans Island
Located off Bells Bay Road, this State Park has 3 miles of ungroomed trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
Little Traverse Wheelway
A 26 mile trail from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs for non motorized activities including cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Parallel to the Lake Michigan shoreline, this trail offers great views of the lake and wildlife.
Downhill Skiing
Mt. McSauba
Mt. McSauba is ranked as one of the top three small ski areas in the United States. From atop the hill are views of Lake Michigan and the surrounding area. Mt. McSauba is perfect for the beginner or intermediate skier with six runs, four rope tows, lighted skiing and a terrain park. Equipment is available for rental.

Skating and Toboganning
Winter Sports Park in Petoskey
This park offers a sledding hill and beginning ski and snowboard hill and an ice rink. The warming hut on the bottom of the hill is a great place for hot chocolate in between sledding runs.
Boyne City’s Avalanche Mountain Preserve
Provides a great sledding hill and an ice rink. The preserve’s 300 wooded acres turns into a winter delight when the snow covers the grounds.
